  Open source Graal/Zelda MMORPG posted by Priest @ 205.122.95.7 on Aug 20 2007 3:39 PM 55555
I have noticed this game is alot like Graal which is alot like a Zelda game...
The advantage to this over Graal is price...
In Graal if you pay nothing you are way limited...

This is my new favorite game...

Another advantage is It works on Windows and Linux...
So If I ever go to Linux I will still be able to play...

I forgot to mention...
I was talking about the Stendhal server...
I am sure it can be diffrent from Graal...

  Java version of 3D Client posted by arianne_rpg @ 80.58.13.172 on Mar 2 2004 8:12 AM
There is a ongoing development to create a Java3D version of the actual 3D client. When it is more complete you will see an update on the game.
Is by the way Java 3D a nice solution for the Linux comunity to see a Linux version of the game?

  Gladiators client posted by arianne_rpg @ 80.58.13.172 on Jan 30 2004 8:52 AM
Forgot to mention that actually the client is developed in a language called blitz that unfortunatelly is only executable under Windows :( Sorry... we do really need help to make it work on an open source 3D engine.

pretty lame using this site for free publicity when its not even going to be possible to _port_ this game to any sensible os (unless someone wants to write a gcc frontend for "blitz"? thought not).

In fact the server and the client framework DOES run in Linux. The problem is that developing a 3D game on any portable 3D engine is a task that is beyond our actual possibilities attending to our actual resources ( that is, I am the only "really" active developer now ), so I wanted to announce that server and framework exists and show that client is possible and affordable and expected to get a friend hand to help coding a free portable client.

Ehm, excuse my ignorance, but why using some "Blitz" thing under Windows instead of learning good old OpenGL which runs on every major platform out there? (yeah, even Windows.. hehe ;))

I have developed the 3D client in less than a week working only on my free time, and without knowing deeply the language. Really, I am more interested on the server, but the problem is that server is totally useless without client and as none dares to do it, I had to. I agree that OpenGL is the way to go, but just consider the amount of time requiered to complete it. I simply lack of that time.

There are a ton of openGL engines out there... Some are really really easy to use... If that's not enough, there are some free as in speech projects that made their custom engine or that have good knowledge of an existing engine and who would probably be glad to help you use that engine in your game... OR, you could have asked here for help before starting the work on your blitz client. really, there was a ton of solutions to your problem, but I don't think using blitz and then advertise your game is was the best one...

Umm, I am sorry, really, very sorry for announcing a client that does NOT work in Linux. I should have made a bit more clear that it is in a development product. I am sorry. But Arianne is now 5 years old ( really ), and our nearest approach to a portable 3D client has been using plib and I know they took about 4 months to get it to work ( I was not involved at the project at that time ). Again, I have got the actual client to "work" in around 5-6 days. The only way to have that developed in such a little time in a portable way would have been to have an expert in 3D ( whose I am not ) and have him/her working full time on it... and as there is none working with us... Again. I am sorry. I will try to make clearer what I announce. I am very sorry.

I think you didn't understand it. He says that there is no manpower on their team for developing a portable client, perhaps you should join and help them so that we can read about it again soon.

Don't worry too much about that. The client and server both work, now I can't wait for someone to make a portable version of the client. The development of arianne sure shows some advance now.

How about not announcing it at all any more? Since, you know, it's a Linux gaming site, and you aren't even offering a Linux game?

oh!, how nice you are :) Again... if you are not able to read that is not my problem. Server is playable under linux, client framework does work under linux. Can you read the above? Do you understand? Client does NOT work on Linux because I have no time for it. But the rest of the game does WORK on Linux. Really if you are sooo discouraged, why don't you just ignore the project? Most of the time it is better to ignore someone instead of being saying stupid things that discourage an open source developer like... you know... I do this because I think it is fun. can you understand it?

WIthout a Linux client there is no game weather the server runs on it or not doesn't matter..... Unless you plan on porting the CLient to Linux i see no point in posting i t here..... I am suck and tired of having come across a game that only the server runs in linux... WHAT GOOD is that! i can't develoip for it... simply put... if you don't have the time to code a client for Linux .. then you shouldn't have the time to post updates for it here.... read the title of the site "--->>>LINUX<<<---- Game Tome

My god, 99 percent of this project is Linux, a Windows client was quickly hacked together and now it's all of a sudden not allowed to show it on a Linux site? Gosh, some people are easily offended... It's an attitude like this that makes Linux fail as a desktop platform. And attitude not unlike MS' I might add. Time to play nice methinks and support this very interesting Linux development. After all, it makes perfect sense to develop the server for Linux and a early client version on Windows, because Windows is where your audience is and Linux is an excellent (proven) choice for servers. If a java client is considered, I can recommend using the jME engine. Very powerful, great performance and very easy to use.

Here's an idea, take your smug condescension and piss off with it. People here on the Linux Game Tome aren't going to sing your praises just because you let them run a server for Windows people to play on; they're here because they're interested in gaming on linux. So it's not at all surprising that they're annoyed when someone posts an announcement for a game that they can't play.

Aaaaaahhhhh if only. posted by Anonymous @ 67.226.245.238 on Jan 26 2003 8:54 PM
If only I had the hard drive space to load linux. If only this game were ported to CYGWIN so people who know linux and windows could use it and still have the stupidity associated with windows hand in hand with the genious known as linux. I'm serious... Heck emulating is fun. I emulate 'nix like OSes in Windows and if I ever get linux up and running I'm downloading lindows (public.lindows.com) and figuring out what they did to wine so I can do it too. Then I'm going to embed wine into gnome and come up with a new awesome windows manager. Keep in mind it would be no ordinary linux. It would be a minimalist version with full x-windows, WineX, OpenGL, all compiled from scratch (www.linuxfromscratch.org) as well as pthreads enhancements and... NEVER MAKE A CYGWIN PORT EVER... UNLESS YOU WANT IT TO END UP LIKE GRAAL WITH PKERS WAITING IN THE START ROOM. Windows sucks... and for something that sucks... it sure does take up a lot of hard drive space. Aaaaaahhhhh if only I had the hard drive space for linux. :( If only. Feel free to delete this mind numbingly stupid post. This realized 5 seconds after clicking send... lucky for me I have windows. I get a full 5 minutes to type in stuff... but I can't stop it from posting. If only!!!! I'm getting a new PC hopefully... then... then I'll try it. :) Yes then. I'll be happy. Even if I can't make it work correctly... I'll still be happier then with windows. As I said before... feel free to delete this.

You can really tell I use windows all the time... it shows when I do something stupid like not checking the download page. Oh well... I'm off to download the game and get myself killed... You can find me easy enough. Just look for the name "ONEBIGLOSER" in all caps and the big bullseye. And yes just as I'm replying to myself I do talk to myself.
