Theme "vectors" released posted by saimo @ 79.53.177.149 on Sep 14 2009 4:03 PM
Hello, here's a fresh piece of news.
For even more retro goodness, BOH gets "vectors", a new theme inspired to vectorial graphics.
The theme can be downloaded for free from the DOWNLOADS page of BOH's website.

Demo is cool, graphic style and sound all nice and nostalgic. Not sure if constantly respawning monsters are best options as dificulty level. If there is an room with no respawn holes then it should stay empty after you clear it. Overall nice project. Runs no problem on my Slackware current. Great C64 theme.

Oh, and if you buy a hard copy you will get printed manual. Now that's called professionalism. Big + from my side.

Thanks for the nice words, Braqoon :) Infinite respawning is one of the key elements of BOH: it's what keeps the pressure constant, what doesn't allow the player to rest, what creates the tension, what forces the player to think fast and to move quickly. Without it, BOH would have been a totally different - and much poorer - game. That said, spawning, of course, does follow certain rules, so don't think that it degenerates to total chaos ;) Even more importantly, please note that BOH is not a shoot'em-up (although the easy missions might fool you): the focus is not the action, but the exploration. Blasting enemies without rest doesn't lead anywhere other than death. The player has to focus on the map, If played with the wrong mindset, BOH becomes very hard or even impossible. As an example, consider the first phase of the mission "tougher and tougher": with the right strategy, it can be completed in a mere 27 seconds and without... oh, no, I'm not going to spoil the fun ;)

Thanks for the further clarification. I can now rule this game out without downloading the demo. I believe strongly in the ability to set my own pace in games.

Not all games are designed this way of course, Other people can enjoy them.

The way you put it sounds somewhat philosophical, but of course you're entitled to your own preferences ;)
