Blood Frontier Screenshot Blood Frontier is a single-player and multi-player first-person shooter.

Blood Frontier is a Free and Open Source game (see our License), using SDL and OpenGL which allows it to be ported to many platforms; you can download a package for Windows, Linux/BSD, Mac OSX, or grab a development copy from our Subversion repository and live on the bleeding edge. If you're an Ubuntu user, you might like to use the easy-to-install package available on PlayDeb.net.

The game is a single-player and multi-player first-person shooter, built as a total conversion of Cube Engine 2, which lends itself toward a balanced gameplay, completely at the control of map makers, while maintaining a general theme of tactics and low gravity. For more information, please see our Wiki.

In a true open source by the people for the people nature, it tries to work closely with the gaming and open source communities to provide a better overall experience, taking all sorts of feedback from your average player, to your seasoned developer, aiming to create a story-driven game environment that is flexible, fun, easy to use, and pleasing to the eye.

In the distant future, humanity has spread throughout the universe, to ends of the galaxy and beyond. A vast communications network bridges from colony to colony, human to machine, and machine to human. This seemingly benign keystone of modern inter-planetary society, however, appears to be the carrier of a mysterious techno-biological plague. Any persons so-connected seem to fall ill and die, only to return as ravenous, sub-human cannibals. You, a machine intelligence, an android, remain unafflicted by this strange phenomenon and have been tasked with destroying the growing hordes of the infected, while, hopefully, locating and stopping the source of the epidemic.

First person shooters posted by WIdgeteye @ 75.109.254.121 on Mar 16 2010 1:03 PM
These first person shooters are all the same. They have been the same for years and they have become boring as hell. I wish someone could come up with a new type of realistic game to play. I'm not knocking this game in particular but all these first person shooters look the same, have the same type of buildings and rooms to run around in and the same boring run around and jump and kill play. They are unrealistic in that no human being could jump around and shoot the way these models do, it's ridiculous. There is no plot or strategy to them at all. A big YAWN, these days.

last time I dl'd blood frontier, I had to delete it since nobody had bothered to add gamepad support, just like the vast majority of online gpl shooters. Even those that do support gamepads almost always use digital axes, not analog axes, which is useless. It's kind of sad to see PC shooters protecting their last market niche, that of inhumanly fast gameplay and inhumanly fast aiming (nobody runs around while peering down their scope and fires at 3 different targets over a 180 degree range in 1 second). Why do the free shooters do the same thing? All speed, run and gun, lightning aiming, and fancy graphics. I may look at blood frontier again, as soon as they add full-analog gamepad support. Best I can do so far with sauerbraten is use joy2key to create a virtual FragFX.

This is an awesome game... but posted by XelloBlue @ 72.37.171.28 on Mar 13 2010 3:38 PM 55555
This is an amazing FPS! This (in my opinion) is way better than Nexuiz. However I looked on the Bloodfrontier page and the last update was in 2009. Did they actual update? I have tried the SVN version and it is even more refined. I am looking forward to the next formal release. :)

What a major step forward with this latest beta. Very fast gameplay which you would expect from using the Cube engine. I will rate later when it is more complete, although I suspect I will be giving this a five when I do

Wait, what? posted by superppl @ 75.37.40.55 on Jul 29 2008 2:36 AM
So basically, this game is cube 2 with more models and maps but less players? Though I am speaking to soon... I haven't even checked it out yet.

Sometimes you should...give it a go before commenting. The level look is very cube with cubes very straight edges...you can use use cube maps. This is definitely a modern online play as opposed to what I could only Doom style play from Cube, and Cube is better for it. It has lovely guns and serious bot play.
