ClanBomber Screenshot Bomberman clone for ClanLib

ClanBomber is a free (GPL) Bomberman-like multiplayer game that uses ClanLib, a free multi platform C++ game SDK. First "ClanBomber" was only a working title for a small game started in September 1998, that has only been started to learn how to use ClanLib. But the ClanBomber project has grown into a real game. It is recommended to play ClanBomber with friends (3-8 players are really fun).

Having just been looking for the best bomerman clone as I noticed xblast has a new version out, I thought I'd have a go at this, Thes main fault Is the poor graphics, and they are poor, It features many nice features. Has a comfusing interface. I'm not one to rate graphics above gameplay but this is a step back from the original,

I always have a blast playing this game with friends- it is really, really fun! Playing single player against the computer isn't that fun, but it's still fun enough so you won't get bored of it. One of the best multiplayer games for Linux.

Good news: It's a high quality Bomberman clone with support for up to 8 players, a good map editor, a bit of blood (which can be turned off--or you can tell the computer to put even more blood splats into the game), decent graphics and plenty of explosions.

The default AI setting tends to do some stupid and often suicidal actions but the computer puts up a very good fight once you start using the MIC AI setting.

Also, there's flexible team options--Want 4 on 4? Want 2 on 2 on 1 on 1? Want 3 on 3 on 2? How about giving the rookie human player an MIC-level AI teammate or two to help even the odds? You can do all of the above and the game scoring has a interesting handicap system for uneven teams--if you have three members on a team and only one survives the round, that's worth only 1/3 of a victory. You'll have to defeat all of your opponents before a single teammate dies to get full credit,

Bad news: No music (well, there's a setting for music, but it never works for me), the error messages use the "s word" even in "kidz mode", poor documentation and, alas, Bomberman type games are far better multiplayer games than they are single player games. It's still fun to blow up the AI players, though--it's hard to stop grinning when you've cleverly pinned in an opponent, even if he's a silicon chip.

Overall: It's not the best single-player game out there but even if you don't have any computer-game playing friends, it's definitely still worth a download.

I wanted to say something about your AI comment. Sadly, I play this game too much (it's truly excellent for calling up a quick game when downloading or waiting for something else to finish) and while I would have agreed with your assessment of the AIs at first, I've noticed that playing with a mixture of the two AIs makes for a much more varied game.

What I've perceived is that the main difference between the two AIs is that one is passive (MIC) and the other is more aggressive (DOK). Also, I've found tricks (especially on my own maps, which I've come to prefer) for trapping the MIC AI that the DOK would never fall for.

I'd rate this game, but I generally agree with what's been put up thus far.

I think the parent poster may have died waiting for a response from you. That post was almost 3 years ago lol. Did you check for a pulse first?
