I've not seen an error like that one, but from other postings on different games, others have replaced the version of SDL that comes with the game with the one on their own system. Worth a shot I suppose. You could also try running the DHLore.bin file directly rather than the shell script (which is there mainly to load the libs in the dir with lore).

I tried that, now it gives a different error, something about X11_Unicode ... something, I uninstalled it so I can't check now. I think it's because it's compiled with different version of xorg or something.

By any chance are you running Slackware 12 or Fedora 8? I've been able to re-produce this issue on those two distros & have a fix for it (updated SDL lib to go into Lore's lib folder). I'll have the fix uploaded on the lore site in a few days after I test it out on other distros.

I've seen this error myself now in four distros (Slackware 12, Fedora 8, Arch Linux 2007.08-2 & Kubuntu 8.04). The patch I've posted here has corrected the issue. Hope it helps.

All the links work now as I've finally got the new installer hosted on the lore site.

Did you download the demo from GarageGames itself? If so, that is the problem right there. The one on GG is broken. Please download it from the download link mentioned above & give that one a go. I am trying to get GG to fix the broken version with the one on the Lore site.

As for having to register to send support... nonsense. Simply send an email to support AT maxgaming.net, post a message in the forums (yes, registering there like you would on most forums), or jump onto IRC itself with the web client found on the Lore website or point your own client to irc.maxgaming.net & join the #darkhorizons channel.

The next version of Lore will not be using the older Loki installer any more. We will be using the Bitrock one instead.

You are right the other link (the one listed in this news) is good but now I'm facing another problem.

The game open a popup saying that I do not have opengl.
By the way I'm able to run games like 'Enemy Territory', 'Savage' or 'Sauerbraten'.

What kind of video card do you have? What driver are you using for this?

A GeForce with the proprietary drivers from NVidia.

Does the system say no when you run glxinfo | grep direct ? If it says no, that would be the reason why it won't run the game. I could only them suggest to try & get the drivers working on your system. If it says yes, then send the ~/.maxgaming/lore/console.log to support AT maxgaming.net. It might help in determining why it seems to think your system doesn't have OpenGL with the drivers installed. Also send the results of running glxinfo by itself along with the distro you are using.

Mechs on Linux! Woo! posted by Rogue Jedi X @ 84.52.141.57 on Nov 27 2005 3:29 PM 4444
Very nice. I've fiddled around with the 2.02 demo and I must say that I am pleased, though I have some complaints. When I first ran this game I thought: "Simplified Mechwarrior, huh? Kickass!". I always thought Mechwarrior, Heavy Gear and the like to be a little too complex for my liking what with all the controls I hardly ever remembered to use and torso/head alignment etc., so this actually turned out to be suited for my tastes. But maybe it was just a wee bit TOO simplified. After playing around for a while, I found myself wondering whether I was playing a mech sim or just a bit slower paced FPS. The one feature I found lacking was body damage. It would be awesome if I could have the option to do damage to specific parts of the enemy's mech and it would FEEL like a mech sim. The other was the thing another user mentioned: when balancing armor and speed and favoring the latter, you hardly notice any difference. Other than that: MORE MAVs, MORE GUNS!! :P Keep up the good work! 4 stars.

Regarding the armor & speed, try flying in a scout or infantry with full armor versus full-speed. Big difference there. :-)

As for more weapons, a wepons pak is being planned for the game. They will also be releasing some of the scripts for the game soon, which will allow anyone to add new mavs themselves or other mods.

Disregard my comment about the weapons pack. There will be updates posted here on the status of the next version. Head over this way to download the client side & server side scripts that were released if you want to play around with modding for the game.

For those interested, they have version 2.02 out now. There has been a lot of changes since the 1.12 above. I still play this all the time. It's fun and the community is good. You can download it from here.

Great game! posted by Anonymous @ 81.178.73.20 on Nov 11 2005 1:07 PM
I am not sure if the reviewer below had some problem with his install, but I think this game is amazing. The graphics are excellent, and the gameplay is really good fun. Manouverability is good on the lighter mechs, and the flying aspect is very interesting. I am planning to buy the full version, and will report back once I have!
