Hi, anybody know whether there is a version of this that works on amd64 (in 64 bit mode)?

There is no AMD64 version, and there are no plans for a 64bit version as the 32bit binary should work on 64bit systems... which is a bit disappointing, but I can't complain.

Doesn't work, gives no error message? posted by Anonymous @ 203.217.79.240 on Oct 5 2004 5:11 PM
K heres my crappy machine, it meets minimum specs.
- 1600+ athlon XP
- 512MB ram
- 64mb geforce 2 GTS

I install this game, have my desktop in 24bit colour, run the game and it changes my desktop to 640X480 and just pauses in a black screen forever. I have the latest nvidia drivers, I run latest stable xorg, have proper glib and everything. The console displays no errors of any kind.

Whats going on here?

I have FC2 where last week was update of x.org. This update changed some libs but those libs must be from nvidia driver package so after update x.org or xfree you have to reinstall drivers.

strange thing is that I installed nvidia drivers origionally after having xorg on.

I've only played it on windows to tell the truth, but it really kicks a truckload of arse. I actually found it fun (I know this isn't universally agreed on) it also looks beautiful. Good going Carmak et. al. It's quite a redemption after Quake 2 and 3 sucked so much balls.

Quake 3 sucks? Quake 3 is still the best Deathmatch game to date, if you ask me nothing comes close. and for you UT2004 fans yes, I still think Quake 3s' death match is unbeatable.

Quake 3 was a disappointment, but to question Quake 2 is heretical. God is going to smite you, parent poster.

I believe quake1 and quake2 are both better than quake3, and UT is way better than q3, q3 has ugly ass graphics in my opinion...

I thought Quake sucked, Quake ][ rocked and Quake III was a disappointing sequel but a solid deathmatch game. UT had more gamemodes, but the level design was lacking (even though there were more? can't remember), and some of the weapons were kind of unnecessary although fun. Between UT and Quake III I prefer Quake III because of its lightning fast gameplay and incredible level design. Quake IV honestly though is the best (single-player) game id has ever published next to Wolfenstein 3-D and the Plutonia Experiment. ;) Best FPS of 2005 closely followed by F.E.A.R.

Looks good, plays boring posted by grumbel @ 83.135.70.236 on Oct 5 2004 5:54 AM 333
The port looks good, easy to install easy to get to work and seems equally to the windows version when it comes to speed. Doom3 is technically really a '5 stars' game, however the whole gameplay gets boring pretty quickly since the whole game is basically the same from start to end, all levels look and play almost the same, which it kind of sad, since it contains quite some nice ideas such as the terminals and the sentry bots. Would they have concentrated a bit more on interaction with NPC (which you have, but only in the first 20mins of the game) added some outside walks on the surface of mars and in general some more varity in the gameplay it could easily be a 5star game, but since gameplay as it is, is just "yet another boring shooter" I only give it a 3.

Im glad everyone has finaly Admitted that! I don't know why, but after Quake 2, Quake 3 seems like a toy! The developers went to a "console game" feel, it seems. It makes me feel as if I am reading a COMIC BOOK! Not only the graphics, but the whole Feel of the game. And with Quake 4, the developers addressed this, but NEVER regained that winning feel that Quake 2 and Quake 1 had.

this means that either your doom3/base directory doesn't contain the .pk4 files from the Doom III cd or you don't have read permissions on doom3/base a 'chmod a+rx doom3/base' should do .... ;-)

Total ripoff! I bought this game just for Linux - I do not have a windows box.
CPU P4 2.8 GHz

Fresh Slackware 11.0 installation with all updates

Everything installed perfectly.

DOES NOT RUN!!!

For starters, try not posting four pages back. Most people aren't going to have the patience to dig all the way back here. It looks like some of the files weren't copied off the cd. I guess I'd look for files with those names and see if they're on the disc.

The picture above *spoiler warning* posted by Anonymous @ 80.141.245.114 on Oct 4 2004 11:40 PM
I think it's kind of strange to see this title advertised with pictures of the now nowhere to be found bathroom scene. The final product differs from the leaked alpha by far. It's quite sad they took this one out. It was some kind of an instant classic. On the other side, the pinky is introduced in a much more heart pounding way now ;)

BTW: you won't see the pinky bursting through the pipes either, if all that spoilage is allowed here...

Even if you do a

export LD_PRELOAD ?
Or as I did:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 ./doom3-demo

Made it for me.
