What is Dink Smallwood? Dink Smallwood is an adventure/role-playing game, similar to Zelda, made by RTsoft. Besides twisted humour, it includes the actual game editor, allowing players to create hundreds of new adventures called Dink Modules or D-Mods for short. The Dink Network hosts a copy of almost all of them. GNU FreeDink currently runs the original game as well as its D-Mods, with close compatibility, under new platforms. Data files (excluding some sound files) are freely available under a zlib style licence.

| You know you've found a good game when you start to play and forget all concept of what time it is in the real world. This is an old-school type rpg but I found it quite fun to play. I didnt have any problems getting it running under Ubuntu, easy download instructions and was up and playing quite quickly. I'd definitely recommend this game if you feel like killing a few hours... but watch the clock lol. | |||

| It's announced as a Zelda-like engine but it has much more possibilities and can be customized quite a lot more than any other Zelda-like I've ever tried. And its roleplaying is more interactive, you do have choices to follow. The graphics may look old school but that low-resolution realistic feel with lots of blood makes it perfect for thriller and scary RPG games (see hotel of the middle night DMOD, really cool!). There are aso many funny dmods but horror-based ones are the most fitting for this graphic theme, imho. There's no other free RPG that looks this scary and bloody while looking so good. However, I think that there are a couple of things that should be addressed: * Make it easy to install, select and play DMODs. The custom games for this engine are what has been keeping it alive after more than 10 years, I wouldn't even know that this DMODs existed if I hadn't searched about this fact... it's not very discoverable. * Finish the missing sound effects and music tracks. Taking sounds from other games (like Wesnoth for the weapon and monsters effects, etc) would make this step easier to fulfill while keeping quality. |

| This looks awesome! Love the graphics in this game, and it's great to see an engine for these types of games. | |||

| Dink Smallwood is a game I have never heard of, and had to look it up on wikipedia. It is unfortunately of the type 2D representations of 3D. A style I personally dislike, and has aged badly, unfortunately this version had not moved to 3D or even raised the visible area to show larger monitors. That said there is a vast array of add-ons under ??? licence not sure what. although I cannot but think these should/could be included or easier to access than through the command line as I bet there are lots of gems. I do hope to see this project evolve |
