I like that idea very much and hope you are keep working! There is a big need of a free and open source HoMM. And the greatest thing ist that it has its own background! Realy nice.

I like the behind the idea very much. Hopefully the dev(s) can continue, especially to build up a slow community. Battle for Wesnoth is a great project, I hope it can "spin off" ideas like "Heroes of Wesnoth" or similar tactical/strategy/adventure type games. :) (On a sidenote, an adventure game in Wesnoth in the spirit of ScummVM Sierra/Lucasart games could be fun)

Good idea, keep working at it posted by Draconishinobi @ 89.122.167.246 on Jun 25 2008 7:15 PM 4444
So far it's in the early stages. It's quite boring, but I'm sure it will get better. It also segfaults during the 'battle' mode.

It shouldn't segfault at all. Can you be a little more specific? Are you compiling from SVN or just version 0.1?

Thanx

Yeah, actually I'm using the svn. I thought the 0.1 zip file contains only the Window$ binary ? Well, I played through the game trying out the different modes from top to bottom, then when I got to 'battle' I played through most of the battle, and then I believe close to when the enemy was about to kill one of my soldiers it seg faults without further info.

Thanx, I've been able to reproduce the segfault. I'll try to fix it today ;-)

Really ? Great. Fine, I guess I'll add another star. Like it really matters, it'll be 4 stars for a long time. Even if I rate it 1 star, it will be rated at 4 stars.

Considering these are the same minds that brought us Battle for Wesnoth, one of the most polished open-source games ever, I'd say this is something to keep an eye on. Good luck developing this game!

...these are the same minds that brought us Battle for Wesnoth...

What, you mean the one guy Jon Ander Peņalba who didn't work on Battle for Wesnoth and who created "The one-year-old, made-for-university, one-man game project Heroes of Wesnoth"?

A Wesnoth themed HoMM game would be cool though.

It doesn't come from their minds unfortunately, it's just an alpha stage project that has decided to "borrow" the artwork and themes from Wesnoth for a smaller (and more buggy judging by the segfaults) project. :>

The segfaults are in the SVN version that's obviously a development version. I haven't seen any bug in version 0.1 and hope to solve most of the ones in the SVN before next release ;-)

So I think it's not that buggy ;-)

Last time I checked it, free software was about borrowing (and alfa sotware was buggy).

"free software was about borrowing" No. It is about "freedom" as such. There are several freedoms and different shades. I.e. i think EVERY open sourced game has more freedom than any closed sourced game, for example, can ever have.
