      Is this LBreakout2? posted by ADzeBill @ 84.203.7.204 on Aug 1 2007 9:03 AM 55555
This is a brilliant game but is LBreakout considered to be a different game to LBreakout2? If so a new entry needs to be made for Lbreakout2. Maybe I will try?

    Yes, and LBreakout2 supersedes LBreakout.

When LBreakout2 was released development of LBreakout stopped. So it's okay to have one entry for this game.

FINALLY!!! I have discovered A *SUPER-COOL* Breakout/Arkanoid clone for Linux! LB2 has slick, smooth-motion graphics, crisp stereo sounds, and deliciously snappy gameplay that will keep you coming back for more. A DEFINITE must-have, must-play game the entire family will enjoy for years to come!

A totally new game posted by Anonymous @ 190.48.193.173 on Nov 29 2005 9:37 PM
Can you just make a new game based in it? I mean: - Two players at the same time (more will be some difficult to play). You can choose one or two players and too you can choose the controls. - Keyboard or mouse configurable. Independent configuration for each player (1 or 2). - More futuristic graphics. The actually game have classic graphics but this can be improved for a futuristic aspect (spacial based maybe). - More technologic sounds. Same as graphic, the sounds can be more expressive (surround explosion effects, some chorused laser sound, and so). - Weapons, buyable or collectable accesories. The player can buy in level intermision (using him/her collected points) weapons (missiles, lasers) or accessories (magnetic attractor, sticky, enlarge the platform). Can you apply that ideas? Thank you.

Source is available, so maybe you could do it yourself? Personally I don't need/want that feature.

Oh, sorry, ok. But why don't just try to do that?
I will do that when I have time for now not.

Making new games based on old ones usually means so much work that beginning from scratch, maybe taking this or that routine, is the better idea. LBr2 is quite at the end of its development, maybe a fix here and there... the only thing that really bothers me is that network game does not work via internet... but apart from that new bonusses, styles, sounds and stuff are not planned.

    Ok, excuse me.
I liked a old DOS game same as it but with a different aspect. Just a spacial graphic and sound theme. The player can buy items and so. Not really a totally new game, otherwise one based in it.
    For do that is neccesary:
Replace some graphics and sounds to complete the other theme. A big work but not too bored.
Make a point and buy system for player. That is the only need to be writed from scratch.
Adapt the network system to permit two same players in cooperative (if it is not so already).
Create new maps, maybe, or not, we can use the already included.
Modify the bonus system, not a lot, only adjust some things that only will be buyed. The others things (bonus items) can be free (as is actually the game). Add some new bonuses if like (really I don't claim a big number of bonus).
Finally test that and correct some rules and possible bugs.

    That is all.

Please, I don't claim you to do that. The game actually is well done, only I like a game same as what I said above.

There are already themes to choose from: http://lgames.sourceforge.net/index.php?project=LBreakout2&sub=Themes
You should better check out the game deeper.... it looks like you are not very sure even about what does it accomplish

      0install LBreakout posted by Anonymous @ 80.130.152.130 on Oct 22 2005 5:08 PM
BTW.: If you don't have root access, you can run LBreakout on every Linux system without installation by 0install (all dependencies will be dowloaded automatically and won't overwrite libraries on your system). A 0install interface for LBreakout is available at http://people.freenet.de/LinuxCNC/0install/lbreakout , all you need to start LBreakout *without* installation is the 50kb 0install Python script from http://0install.org/injector.html . Any feedbacks are welcome... ;)
