I played the demo of this for about 4 hours, with the UI lagging progressively worse and worse after every turn, even taking several seconds just to select a piece. I seized South America and held it, while the others fought in futility over Europe while green gathered a mighty horde in East Africa, preventing anyone from trying to capture Africa. After two or three failed campaigns I managed to send a mighty army racing across the Bering Strait and down to Australia, and after a hard-fought defense solidified control of the continent. The enemies began dropping like flies, fleeing to relative safety on a few squares in North America, Europe, and Asia. Finally only green was left and launched a blitzkrieg with its horde of about 200 armies, still in East Africa, seizing South America and Europe. But green couldn't hold its gains for the bonus, and with a final battle in Northern Europe I ended the game on the next turn. And if you think this was a long story, that was the entire 4 hours, that one game. I'm not playing it again. Besides, normal Risk rules, with the chain attacks around the globe but redeployment only 1 space, is ridiculous. Risk was always stupid like that.

Nice game concept. Kind of buggy though (after about 4 games it tends to start screwing up the display). Very slow.. takes a lot of cpu to show some basic explosions -- that won't matter on modern systems much, unless you're battery limited.

Map making features are well done. New maps are the only thing that keeps risk fresh.

I liked it, easy to install and addictive. The multiple maps with historically correct regions adds to the game immensely if your interested geography and history. I wish they had a Russian empire map as well but with the ability to create custom maps, I'll explore this further. Well done.

Wonder if you could bypass the time limitation by installing it in a guest OS, via VirtualBox or something.. I'm gonna try it :D

It just stores the data in the private data storage area, .java etc. You can wipe it if you want to reset the time. If you put some effort into it, i'm sure you could figure out which config items it gets the time from, but it's not a very expensive game. I suggest you buy it if you like it enough.

It's also SEXIST. I don't see any FEMALE pieces? FUCK YOU DEVELOPER AND YOUR SEXIST IMPERIALISM. WOMEN HAVE THE POWER. WOMEN HAVE THE POWER. WE HAVE THE POWER. WE HAVE THE POWER. WE HAVE THE POWER.

IT IS A WOMAN'S WORLD NOW!
MEN'S WORLD IS OVER! GONE! YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE AND YOU RUINED IT THROUGH WAR.
REMOVE THE SEXISM FROM YOUR GAME RIGHT NOW OR IT WILL __NEVER__ GET INTO DEBIAN AS WE DEBIAN WOMEN WILL BLOCK IT'S INCLUSION.

ALSO DO NOT USE "HE" USE "SHE OR HE" OR (BETTER YET) USE "SHE" IN YOUR DOCUMENTATION AND OTHER WRITINGS.

There will NOT be ANYMORE sexist games or sexist DEVELOPERS in opensource. We have linuxchix, debian women, KDE women, gnome women, and open office .org. We will NOT let YOU develop in these projects if you continue your sexism (in your games, documentation, website, or in IRC). SEXIST MEN ARE NOLONGER WELCOMED IN FLOSS.

You must understand this or you will never be allowed to join any of the main Free/Libre/OpenSource projects. Shape up or be ostracised. RESPECT your fellow HUMAN BEINGS: WOMEN.

Change your game or it is NOT going into debian.

That's not a woman. That's a man who hates women, showing you how he thinks women really are. Yeah, he's got some serious social retardation problems.

Hate to break this to you, but this game will never be included in Debian anyway. If you care to read the description, you'll find out that this game is proprietary and commercial.

Hey buddy, guess what. I used Debian for many years and then gradually got SICK AND TIRED of the fucking politics on the mailing lists. That and a couple other things prompted me to switch to OpenBSD, which sometimes still has some annoying politics shit on the mailing lists but it's still way way less than the shit I had to put up with when I was trying to be a part of the Debian community. POLITICS HAS NO FUCKING PLACE ON THIS SITE OR ON TECHNICAL MAILING LISTS! IT ONLY SERVES TO MAKE LIFE SHITTY FOR EVERYONE!

can't well all just get along. it's a game for crying out loud. So what if 'lux" and other risk type games are imperialistic. Ever heard of know thy enemy??? Or that sometimes a game.....is just a game. Do you not play chinese checkers because you think it's racist? Maybe you don't play monopoly because it supports capitalism? Maybe you don't play Hungry Hungry Hippos because it's animal abuse? Give me a break!!! Enough with the PC bulls**t!!!! Sometimes good people can play and enjoy "terrible" games. I played G.I.Joe as a kid I turned out socially progressive. Sometimes the PCers have to lighten up and have some fun!!!

Come on. If yall cant SHUT UP and quit whining that a skater chick got slid across the ice in an Arby's commercial or that the Braves fans are doing the chop OR about the same old tired "american imperialism" ****, then slip into a straight jacket - take some Thorazine - and call it a day because you have impulse control disorder.

PC is what's screwing this country up and I would only expect that the attitude of the Debian devs is much worse and more prevalent among the Ubuntu devs.

Hell they'll probably threaten to burn your house down if you look sideways at a woman.

Michael Savage was right for calling liberals crazy.

You're a fucking retard.* Not only are you resurrecting a thread from june of last year, THAT'S NOT A FUCKING WOMAN, STUPID. That's a sexist asshole 'parodying' what he think feminists are like. Reading comprehension, try it today! It was either mikeusa or one of his toadies -- they stunk up half of happypenguin.org last year, crying and moaning about Debian Women.

* (Of course, agreeing with cartoon character Michael Savage is proof positive of that, by itself. Further evidence is that you're bitching about 'political correctness.' Did you get frozen in a block of ice in 1996 and just get thawed out yesterday? Newsflash: The rest of the planet's long since moved on. You're supposed to be pissing your pants about Muslims and hating France now. Get with the program!)

OK, I'm the one that resurrected a discussion about a game that's been around for a year or more?!? Look on the front page of happypenguin.org. It says in big print:

Lux 5.6 UPDATED

Come on, what the hell did ya think was going to happen? That people would stop by and leave condolences over its death? Maybe some flowers?

As for the rest of what ya said - It shows just how ignorant you are of social affairs and that you're willing to reduce an entire school of thought to "pissing your pants about Muslims and hating France."

and wait a minute...

*******NEWSFLASH*******:

I've heard some people tell me I was unfrozen from 1956. ;) Do you really think I care what you say about me on an Internet board?

It says in big print: Lux 5.6 UPDATED Come on, what the hell did ya think was going to happen?

I don't know, that maybe people would comment on the NEW FEATURES IN THIS RELEASE, rather than dredging up the post of one of mikeusa's woman-hating trollboys? But no, that'd be reasonable, and we can't have that.

It shows just how ignorant you are of social affairs and that you're willing to reduce an entire school of thought to "pissing your pants about Muslims and hating France."

I don't know. I think referring to the crayola scribblings of Michael Savage as a "school of thought" is a bit grandiose. My criticism remains -- you're still going on about political correctness while the rest of the right-wing looney brigade have moved on to worrying about how Islam is destroying white culture and how France saps our precious bodily fluids. Please update your playbook to the 2007 edition, we're bored with these old gags.

Mmmmmmm best risk ever. Yeah I know, it's risk and it costs $25 (AU$34 when I bought it). But it is such a cool implementation _AND_ it runs on linux. Good one people. You gave me another way to waste my time and (maybe more importantly :) you made me part with my money.

Downloaded, installed to it's own directory and ran. No problems. If only all Linux games worked like that. It looks like it's a nice little earner too. Non too original and a bit out of date but fun. If the exchange rate's favourable I may even be tempted to part with my pennies.
