Only three stars because of the following missing features (IMHO):
  • Highscores: because this would motivate me to play this game further and further (to beat my own record). The score could be based on the total number of bots killed (whatoever)...
  • Possibility to define the direction of an archway when placed. Currently there are cases where the game doesn't let you place an archway at all and very rare cases where the game places the archway automatically in the "wrong" direction.
  • least important for me: possibility to save/restore the current game state.

I like tower defense games, this one is nice. Needs more traps and diversity, maybe some trap progression or limitations such as specific scenarios. Works almost out-of the-box, I needed to link to the libopenal.so.1 file:
$ cd /usr/lib
$ sudo ln -s libopenal.so.0 libopenal.so.1
Besides this, no problem. easy level is easy, haven't tried the other ones yet. PgUp doesn't work, only with the mouse can I go up floors. I would expect that with the apparent 3D graphics, I would be able to rotate the screen, but I can't.
Keep up the good work!

openal 0.x and 1.x are not compatible. That "fooling" it by symlinking worked for you is luck.

Try not to make it a habit to cross-symlink library versions like that, it's setting yourself up for messy failure.

Cool game! A bit buggy. sometimes the controls dont work. If you block in a bad guy, the game crashes... so don't do that :) Dunno if I'm just lame, but i run outta money too fast, then get buried. not sure what im missing. too bad you cant tweak the dat file. --Dave

You're probably missing the robots' armor. Their health bars start out blue and shade to red as their armor is slowly destroyed. The stronger their armor, the less damage the traps will be able to do. Use acid sprayers early on to eat away this armor until it's bright red. After that, your traps should be much more deadly.
It's been a while, but I think about 8 of them should be sufficient for the whole game. Just remember to leave room early on. Note that you can put acid sprayers in a corner, too.

Trapdoors are nice, too, but be sure not to rely on them too heavily - robots sometimes slip through. Still it can be nice to send a major boss robot back a floor or three.

- a good combo is 'alternating corrent' with pyre, to stun clanks get the explosion while they are on a lava floor. The same mechanism can be used to get clanks to be more time exposed to acid sprays. - big bosses are very slow and this can turn to an advantage, if you press 'n' right after the bosses come out to start a new wave, they will create a traffic jam and all the faster clanks after them will be slowed down and more easily destroyed. This is a very nice game, but it could have a savegame/loadgame feature, because after an hour or so of game you get tired.

I beat the game without any of the lava floor traps, mainly because they caused my framerate to plummet to 3-5 fps. (Nvidia 6100sm onboard video) Just lots of hallways filled with electric and sawblade traps.

In lieu of a savegame feature, I started the game from a terminal and just used CTRL-Z and "fg" to pause and resume. It worked fine.

  no luck with intel cards posted by Bob the Hamster @ 71.130.66.66 on Aug 7 2009 6:43 PM
The screenshots look cool, but I cannot play it. On my Thinkpad (which has an intel video card) the play-area is completely blank, although the buttons and other user-interface elements work fine.

I also have an intel chipset and had the exact same problem.

Fun game, sadly it hangs and crashes all the time for me. I am sure nvidia bugs are to blame, not the game itself.

Looks like it could be a neat game but placing objects is either buggy or extremely non-intuitive. I can only place one wall down and then nothing else will work. There doesn't seem to be any way to confirm or clear the current selected square.
