Look nice, but I ran into a compile error: cc1plus: out of memory allocating 14596356 bytes after a total of 124338176 bytes I have pretty negligable RAM (256MB) and the same as swap. I've compiled GCC before though so this surprises me a bit.

That internal compiler error suggests a buggy gcc version or a faulty RAM. What gcc version are you using? Did you ran any memory tester like memtest86?

That level is Carmona, I'm going nuts because I can't solve it... unless there is a way to skip a turn and lure the enemy closer I don't see how it can be done... anyone?

On my system, the ubuntu version gets stuck while "loading animations" for level three. The music goes on, but nothing happens.

The game has a problem in the third level. You can find the solution in the website

I had that problem, but it worked for me after a few attempts. Still, I'm glad you're looking into it. Very slick-looking game, and the music reminds me of something out of The Neverhood. That's clearly a good thing.

usage of arrow keys can be improved posted by ericsp @ 82.169.55.110 on Jan 27 2008 8:00 AM 4444
Nice game. I am not sure whether I have the patience to read all the tourist information stuff. What is a bit annoying is that it is not clear which keys to use to go up/down/right/left. Mainly because the field is turned 45 degrees. I have not found an option to change that, since I would prefer to use more intuitive keys as 7-9-1-3 on the numerical keyboard.

For the rest it all looks very polished.

"We are CaninoStudios, a development group destined to make video games under the free software philosophy."

This is great and sounds very promising. Unfortunately the CC-NC-SA is no free software license and conficts with the Debian Free Software Guidelines. As such it also does not qualify as OpenSource.

Please check whether you are able to use GNU General Public License or the CC-BY-SA license if you want the game to be free software.

The free thing needs to be replaced its a long time problem with these games when a simply listing the license is trivial...oh and creative commons as a description is getting more and more deceptive...on a more positive note. I really like the idea of supporting a game with merchandising and there is a few items I would be interested in buying although I'm not sure buying ladies undergarments with a large crab on the groin was particularly well thought out.

The problem with the NC part is that a organisation or company that wishes to sell it's distribution even if just to cover copying costs can't legally include software that states it cannot be sold.

This does not mean the software is not free.

It does not mean people using GPL distros cannot use this software

It just means this software cannot be re-distributed with the distro.

Actually, the SA part means it can be redistributed even in modified form. The NC part means it can not be redistributed for money.

This violates the DFSG, and is probably incompatible with the GPL. (IANAL.)

However, it is open source, and it is also free as in beer.

Whether it is free software or not is a matter of both definition and religion.

If someone needs monetary compensation for redistributing it, they should ask the developers for a custom license. Many people seem to choose the NC to prevent others from profiting from their work without compensating them.

LOL It has nothing to do with religion. If you move away from making negative political statements against the free software movement and worse reinforcing a negative aspect of religion. which has a clear definition of free...as has this site.

The bottom line is this is a new piece of software than many would consider free enough, simply by having the source code available, even if it has trouble with commercial distribution. If you like the game if has a fairly novel although not unique way of making some money. Buy a cup; t-shirt; grundies, whoever put the merch together did a good job.

It maybe free as in beer, but it is not open source. From http://www.opensource.org/docs/osd :
1. Free Redistribution The license shall not restrict any party from selling or giving away the software as a component of an aggregate software distribution containing programs from several different sources. The license shall not require a royalty or other fee for such sale.
(Bolds are mine). So, if you cannot make a comercial use of the software, it is not free software and it is not open source. It's a shame, since the project is supported by the Andalusian government.
