PCGen Screenshot RPG character generator and maintenance program

PCGen is a character generator and maintenance program aimed at supporting any and all d20 roleplaying games - most notably Dungeons and Dragons (3rd Ed., ® Wizards of the Coast), Star Wars (® Lucasfilm Ltd.) and an assortment of others. It can help you quickly create a new character or convert old ones, and it has the ability to generate character sheets and even party sheets through the use of templates (a variety of html templates are provided).

All data files are ASCII, which means that they can be edited with Notepad, Excel, vi or your favorite editor as long as you save it as plain text. It is very extensible so that classes, races, deities, domains, feats, skills, spells and weapon proficiencies can be added. It is written 100% in Java, so any system with Java 1.3 or greater should be able to run PCGen.

They say they support Pathfinder, but tons of important stuff is missing such as rouge talents and traits.

That is funny as I play a Rogue in PFRPG and have all of my Traits and Talents. As for Traits, they are working to add the AP specific ones to the PF game mode as currently they are under 3.5E. If you need help, they have a Yahoo Group site that explains everything and are more than willing to help answer any question.

Grotesquely ugly and difficult user interface, a few rare bugs, but otherwise very complete and capable. With a UI overhaul it could be great.

I think that you are being a bit unfair. Pcgen is far more finished than the average happypenguin project. You have to admire the work they have put into getting all the rules right. The only thing I miss is support for "drag and drop". That would useful for equipping characters.

Just too bad that only the basic contents are included (i.e.: no Arms & Equipment guide, Sword & Fist, etc.) plus a few extras, but that's because of the license and it wouldn't be fair of me to give it a star less because of that.

A solid utility for creating PC's for D&D(tm) and other gaming systems with rules sets available in PCGen.

This program seems to be updated frequently to keep up to date of new rules.
