Two great subgames, railroads and stocks posted by shapr @ 81.224.147.69 on Dec 20 2005 11:41 PM 55555
I enjoy this game because it has two subgames that interact nicely. I learned to play this game against my girlfriend who was extremely good at the business side of the game. My only response was to become extremely good at the stock market and pull off the occasional hostile takeover of her flawless companies. Of course, she quickly learned the stock market while I struggled with the details of the cargoes and routes.
The maps are beautiful and educational. Even if you've never been interested in history, geography or economy, you'll learn all three of those from this game. (For example, why is most of the population of Australia on the coastline?)
Also, there are a large number of fun user built maps available online. You should grab the maps while you still can, the websites are slowly bitrotting away as the game ages.

In summary, the GG1 rocks, I want a scale model!

Yes it's a great game, but disappointing that I can't play it on my laptop, which is fairly old and has max resolution of 800 by 600. The game requires a resolution of 1024 by 768.

Excellent strategy/simulation/eduational game. However, this game is for people who are patient and like to build. But for those people, this game is a lot of fun and addictive.

The demo is pretty good and free. The full game is much better. One place to find the game is internet auctions. If you buy the game, be sure to apply the 1.5.4c unified patch.

If playing the demo, start with Heartland. If you have the full version, start with the first senario in the first campaign (B&O Railroad). The campaigns are meant to be educational and, for the most part, they are.

A very addictice game with good graphics and game play. the demo also installs and works out of the box on at least a standard Red Hat 6.2 machine which is a bonus.

A great game, very replayable. The graphics are nice (although not perfect.) The computer opponents are a bit dim, but the campaigns are challenging enough.
