Rocks 'n' Diamonds Screenshot A very good Boulderdash type game with high quality graphics and stereo sound.

Rocks 'n' Diamonds is a Boulderd*sh game for X11 with more than just the falling rocks and diamonds of its namesake. The object is still to collect all the diamonds (and emeralds), then get to the exit before time runs out. But your character must make use of bombs, spaceships, and many other elements in order to fill his quota of jewels. It is very customizable: users can create their own graphics, sounds and elements, so that modpacks can be created which create an entirely different flavour of the same game. This was written by the same person who wrote MirrorMagic, and the graphics are of high quality, as are the musical soundtrack and sound effects.

My favoured levelset is from 'Emerald Mine'. I am using a gamepad. Better than the original on my old Amiga.

Why is R'd'D Jue not listed? posted by mbabuskov @ 193.34.64.63 on Jun 21 2010 1:55 PM 55555
It should be listed, perhaps as a separate game. Graphics are awsome, modern looking, and games are really cool. I like Puzznic the most. I just discovered it by chance. While it is nice to have all the old games, Jue would not have all the "it's old and outdated" comments attached.

It's good to be able to play so many similar games (_Crystal Caves_, _Boulderdash_, _Supaplex_, etc) under the same program. I really liked _Boulderdash_ on the Commodore 64, and it was great to be able to play through all of the levels again. Even better, this program intoduced me to _Sokoban_ which I was not familiar with when I first downloaded this a few years ago. _Sokoban_ is supposed to be more of a turn-based puzzle game than the others, so it was a little annoying that if you pushed one block one square too far, preventing the level from being completed, that the level had to be restarted (rather than just taking back the previous push, as in other _Sokoban_ programs). Also, the number of user generated levels is very large, but many of them (at least of the ones I have tried) are just excuses to make pretty explosion patterns rather than to test brain or dexterity.

"Quality graphics"? Supaplex looks better than this... Downloading anyway, since I need such a game in Linux! :P

Date of submission: 1998. Back when 1024x768 was a pretty huge resolution. Back when the LGT was much smaller, and most of the games listed suffered from a severe case of "programmer art". Yeah.

Ah, okay. I didn't see that submission date there. Heck, I didn't even know the LGT has been around that long!

R'n'D does include Supaplex levels and graphics among many other boulderdash variants it supports...

I have a version of this on an older Linux OS, and it came with a pile of levels, including the original BD levels. On my newer FC5 system, there are a lot less levels. Ideas?

I don't know about the original BD levels, but the Levels & Artwork page has several sets of levels there, including one that has over fifty thousand levels.
