  Good game. posted by henryju @ 194.2.91.222 on Jan 23 2008 3:05 PM 55555
Works fine even on my old computer with low details (P4c 2,8 GHz + GeForce 6800). I hope many good mods will be developed.

I found this game to be pretty uninspiring, which was the worst thing. I can't even be bothered figuring out the first "puzzle" level. Enormous character, block and enemy tiles mean that even played on a maximised window it is rare to be able to see the enemy or the objectives. Although the idea of moving level elements with the PC's hair is on the face of it vaguely interesting, it's not particularly well-implemented. Most annoyingly is the frequency with which you end up getting "stuck" inside a block you've dropped onto yourself. It also allows for exploits like "magic carpet" - by holding onto a block beneath you, jumping and bringing it up the PC is capable of flight.

Neat idea, I guess, but wants better implementation. At the moment it doesn't hold much interest.

Thanks for your review,
- The "magic carpet" trick is intentional (without it, it would be very difficult to win).
- About getting "stuck", I think there is no real good solution, whatever the implementation. In the previous version, the PC could not be stuck (cubes had to be dropped somewhere else), but it was not better by the way.
- To see better the enemy or the objectives, you can increase your field of view in the game options.

Princess, huh? You know, either find a really good artist to draw at least the character, or change the legenda of the game, replacing "princess" with "peasant woman". You know, even those princesses found in teenage girls' notebooks are more credible to be of noble origin. Yours design suits more for Orc Female Species of WoW. I simply cannot take the game seriously when this horribly looking old hag is goofing around as the main character. And you want money for that? Holy macaroni...

Corrected. Thanks for the advice.

Heh. That correction is in itself incorrect. Nobles weren't much more likely to be beautiful than average -- in fact, peasant diets in many countries were far healthier than the giant grease-laden banquets that the rich generally indulged in.
What's more, milkmaids (who were peasants) across Europe had a reputation for great beauty. This was due to the fact that they usually caught the rather mild cowpox, which immunized them against the ravages of smallpox. Nobody knew how that worked back then, but milkmaids retained lovely complexions while everyone else was susceptible to horrible scarring from the pox.
Still, I second the notion of not making her a princess, anyway. The tradition of making heroic figures into members of the upper-class comes from upper-class writers, whereas history shows the nobility to be indifferent to their subjects at best, and downright malevolent bastards much of the time. Heck, they stole Robin Hood from the people, turning him into a upper-class git who kneels before "proper" authority and only rebels against the wrong sort of king.

Yes, you're absolutely right if(!) we speak about real people. Indeed, physical beauty was never defined by social status. But when we're talking about fictional characters, the situation is different. A fictional princess has(!) to be a beauty, a villain - ugly, a hero - handsome. This is some perceptive tradition. Please note, that e.g. Shrek was exploitiong this tradition, making a princess an ogre and an ogre - a hero, which created its unusual success. This is why I told a character called princess should be beautiful, otherwise it should be a peasant or something. It's not because I thing that lower classes are ugly and elites are beautiful. Well, on the other hand, one expects to see an attractive character anyway. Be it a handsome warrior, a beautiful princess or a sexy spygirl in a tight leather outfit with lots of fancy gadgets. Yet I found the protagonist of the game unattractive in any way, and I believe I am not alone sharing this opinion.

Not worth the download. posted by Anonymous @ 205.251.136.200 on Nov 21 2007 8:04 PM
Full of graphical glitches and random slowdowns on my machine (dual-booting in Windows XP and Ubuntu), idiotic copy protection...it's laughable that phrounz (come on, I know you're going to pipe in and tell me all about how great your buggy game is) thinks he/she is going to get $9.90 for a buggy piece of crap. Go ahead phrounz, get that astroturfer in gear and start telling me how wrong I am. It's perfectly obvious that the only reason you're posting is to try and con people into buying this wreck.

When you enter a comment here, there is written on your screen "Please don't be a potty mouth." As long as you comment like you do, you will not be credible, and your comments will not even has any sense.

That isn't being a "Potty Mouth". He is being a critic of your game - you should welcome critiques of both realms.

True, s/he doesn't swear, but this still isn't criticism. At best, complaints about performance and glitches count as bug reports at best, but I suspect the OP's system might be in some way borked since the game works fine for me.

Accusing the author of con-artistry is not criticism, it's libel. Not 100% how to interpret that thing about astroturf...

No, it seems it's the copy protection.

I just tested the demo. Nice game.
Some ingame music would be nice.

Bugs:
The fullscreen option didn't work for me on Ubuntu Gutsy.
I had some graphical glitches too:
In the main menu, "main menu", "copyright François Braud" are flickering with a black overlay.

Ok, I continued playing to level 4 in the demo.
The graphical glitches make the game almost unplayable.
Sometimes the blocks dissappear, turn into fish. Wall blocks are semi-invisible and look more like grass.
I have already encountered similar glitches in supertux, with the tux sprite being replaced by coins when running.
Maybe it's because I have an ATI card. I don't know.

I also think it's the graphic card driver, since your problem seem to be that the opengl texture ids are mixed up, and there are no reasons that it could occur, since it works without glitches on all the machines I used to test the game.

If you downloaded the 1.2 version, try to disactivate 3D rendering mode in the options, in case it would work (but I don't think so).

Re: You Want Mpney For This? posted by phrounz @ 86.72.207.241 on Nov 13 2007 6:12 PM
There is a readme.html file in the game folder with a FAQ and a lot of technical informations (and even a lisezmoi.html if you prefer french language). Since you have a graphical interface, you should have some browser to read it. And if it is buggy on XP (but I'm not sure since you said lies about the readme), please say what doesn't work.

The little robot is not pulling the girl's hair, it's just that it is over the hair. Seems that you entered a comment without even downloading the game ...

Complained about missing libalut so I downloaded freealut, compiled and installed that easily enough. Also "/usr/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by ./TaneaLinuxTrial)" but it worked anyway.

A very short demo but an interesting concept if a little odd. I guess you could equally have a character that could move objects within a certain distance by telekinesis rather than their hair.

Thanks for your review, I think I'll do a new demo with more levels, this one is too short.
