UFO: Alien Invasion Screenshot X-COM inspired turn based 3D strategy game

UFO: Alien Invasion is a strategy game featuring turn-based tactical combat against hostile alien forces (human or computer controlled) which are infiltrating earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force. To be successful in the long run, you must research the alien technology in order to build bigger and better weapons against your foes.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is heavily inspired by the 'X-COM' series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, 'UFO DEFENSE', became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made.
'UFO: Alien Invasion' is neither a sequel nor a remake of 'UFO DEFENSE' - we simply had the urge to create a similar, turn-based strategy game. We hope that it will be as entertaining as the original was us.

try the SVN version - it keeps getting better, they should really make some new release for general public one of those days.. If you ever loved UFO: Enemy Unknown, you'll like this one

It is a very good game. Mature graphics and gameplay. Good story. Good music. The best free game in my opinion. Does give you a creepy feeling when facing unknown aliens... I love it!

Comments for possible additions:
Adding a guided rocket, with waypoints like in UFO defence would be neat!
Graphics: explosions could be nicer, and some (very few) objects pass through walls.
More game configuration options could be nice, like choosing not to let the computer decide to autosell anything, or to heal automatically all wounded soldiers.
More links to the help would be nice, like right clicking on a weapon to see its specification, and in battle mode seeing soldier and weapon properties.
Why do workers, scientists and physicians have to be individually chosen and named? They have no separate properties, and it is annoying to have to scroll down a big uneeded list, while not knowing the number you actually hired.
Maybe adding a bases summary with research and production, highlighting where there are idle workers/scientists.
In the production menu, I think that the time for building a NEW item should be shown if pressing on a new item, and indicate the time remaining for the item only when pressed in the production queue.
The incendiary weapons do not (graphically) incinerate everything. I think a fiery area for the next turn after incineration would be extremely cool.

(I am only playing the game for the first time and I'm only in the beginning-middle of it)

The screenshot is old and/or in a horrid detail setting. I would suggest someone with the hardware make a full-settings screenshot to replace that ugly one. It is a good game, but not my kind of thing - but thats opinion and not a flaw to the game.

Very good game, very polished. Needs some more campaign polishing (look for it in next versions) as 2.2 is lacking a game end. Gives a lot of playability with much fun and care to details. A must play.

A very good game posted by Anonymous @ 86.70.218.201 on Oct 17 2007 1:00 AM
Really excellent game. Story is very classical but, gameplay is great, graphisms (don't know if the word is correct cause i'm french, but you see what I mean...I hope) are very good for a linux game : what you can see doesn't feel...empty. The sounds effects are correct, and music good. About the sound, i had minor problems I have resolved by editing the config.cfg file (search in it the 'set snd' entrys ;-) ). For me it is, with 'Battle for wesnoth', the two best wargames on Linux you can find fornow.
