XorCurses Screenshot A curses remake for Linux of Xor by Astral Software.

The idea of Xor (XorCurses) is to roam around a series of mazes collecting masks. The first level is simply a matter of finding your way around and locating the masks, but as you progress through the levels you are introduced to moving objects such as fish and chickens, and the bombs. From there on in things get progressively tougher and Xor really is a challenging and difficult puzzle game.

Fun game, I don't know the original, though. But I agree, the 'nastiness' of replay is enough to rather sit and think than try and die.

  XorCurses-0.0.7 New Release posted by jwm-art @ 89.195.6.239 on Mar 13 2009 6:06 PM

XorCurses-0.0.7 New Release

  * Bug fixed: One of the points checked
after a bomb blast, was only checked
for a gravitating object which moved
in one direction, when infact there
should have been two checks at that
    precise location for both gravitating
    directions.

XorCurses-0.0.7.tar.bz2

Also please note that in future the latest release of XorCurses will always be shown at the following location: XorCurses (jwm-art.net) with older releases listed at the bottom of the page as usual.
Thanks, enjoy.

-----

Note: The bug this release fixes has not shown itself in the first 8 levels of the game to the very best of my knowledge - and I have completed these levels, but still struggling with level 9. I discovered this bug while updating the very same code but for XorGramana. A new game based upon Xor, but with far more object types...

XorCurses-0.0.6 New Release

20th February 2009 (early hours)

  * Blowing up sad-mask/switch toggles wall
    visibility - as should happen.

  * Least number of moves taken to complete
a level is shown in level menu. These are
stored in $HOME/.xorcurses in a binary file
    format - if writable.

  * During game play, the number of moves taken
so far is displayed instead of the number of
moves remaining - in keeping with original
    Xor game.

  * Some minor code changes.

Enjoy, or let it drive you insane!

NOTE: If the previous version you were aware of
was 0.0.3 then you've missed all the good stuff.
Upgrade!

Decent, faithful re-implementation of an excellently infuriating game. Addition of a "replay" feature makes the game playable (which the original really wasn't), while keeping death painful enough to prevent brute-forcing of the puzzles.
