I believe this game is unfortunately non-free. You can get the source code but basically do nothing with it, as far as I know. A real shame. The old version used to be GPL. :-(

Lags on Debian unstable posted by Anonymous @ 153.96.112.2 on Jan 13 2005 12:48 AM
On my debian unstable installation on an Athlon 500 MHz/384 MB, especially with high-quality 3D graphics and antialiasing, the game lags very strongly; with "top" I see glGo consuming about 90% of CPU performance for several tens of seconds without visually doing anything. Closing the glGo window via menu command also leads to a hang followed by a 'hard kill' of the program initiated by KDE. The graphic looks nice, though.

Sounds like you might be using software rendering. Do other games have similar problems? Any Dog Breed

i dont like this client posted by Anonymous @ 212.185.213.236 on Jan 12 2005 6:04 AM
in windows 1 glGo-backgroundtask stays open even if you close the client + there is no source available.. nothing for me. i switched to the qGo-client, which is not 3D and without glGo's "bewertungssystem", but great for playing Go;-)

Misleading description posted by Anonymous @ 4.16.250.14 on May 4 2004 7:29 PM
It should be noted that the above description is misleading. The source is available for the old (discontinued?) glGo, but not the new one, which the "Home page" link will take you to. The open-source version is http://ggo.sourceforge.net/ (latest version 0.0.6). The version at pandanet.co.jp is closed-source (version 0.1.1, as of May 2004).

  Abandoned? posted by Anonymous @ 4.16.250.14 on May 4 2004 7:23 PM
The version on sourceforge seems to be abandoned. The author was hired by IGS and he states on the new webpage very emphatically that the improvements he's been hired to do will not be open-source. Too bad. As noted before, this program is very difficult to get running as it is now, and now it will probably die.

Sadly, this is tricky to get to compile, and the binary won't run on Gentoo. That's very sad, and I hope that there will be a configure script at some point, because I'm absolutely not used to/unable to deal with the Makefile as it is.

  Game Rules ? posted by Anonymous @ 217.96.188.68 on Nov 21 2003 5:48 AM

Hi,

I found out the basic by playing whit computer but I think that it should be a short introduction to this game in a help.

Can somebody tell me if there is any online introduction how to play this game ?

Here are some links that should get you started: Good introduction, Interactive tutorial (needs Java for applets), a Funny flash. There are not too many english webpages about Go as the game is not too common in the western world. Some more links: Gobase, a Go Wiki and IGS, the server glGo is made for. Actually I never considered someone would download this who doesnt already play the game. Guess I need to reconsider this after posting the program here. :)

Why there is no version based on gtk2 ? posted by @ 213.199.192.37 on Oct 29 2003 11:32 PM

wxWindows with GTK2 is still marked as "experimental", wxGTK 1.2 is the stable version. I tried with GTK2, worked fine though. Not sure yet, I need to give it some more testing and find out why it's "experimetal". Following the wxWindows newsgroup it has a couple of minor problems. If you badly want GTK2 now, you can compile glGo yourself with wxGTK 2.x.
