Gtk2Hack is a nice graphical frontend for the popular rogue-like role playing game nethack using the modern GTK2 toolkit. It was inspired by other window ports like QtHack and Gnomehack. It aims to provide an improved visual interface while maintaining complete keyboard controllability. It also adds the ability to leave the inventory window up while playing, has nice bars for hitpoint and power display and features a nicer equipment window with the stuff you are currently wearing/wielding.

| Excellent interface to nethack. better than the qt. Simple and informative, displaying everything you need to know. Having the inventory and stuff wielded displayed while you hack is soooo good; it helps me remember those scroll of teleport I have when facing a not friendly creature on low levels. Maybe I'll ascend this time... or maybe not... |

| Looks like this game has been made by pure NetHack geeks. - It's almost impossible for people who are playing NetHack for the first time to understand what to do in the game. After that i swiched (as suggested by friend) to Falcon's Eye and with just few seconds I, at least managed to move. Game also sets wrong permissions. I installed it in /usr/local and when I started it for the first time it complained about some (no clean explanation what is wrong, so another minus point) wrong permissions, so I had to strace the game to check what is wrong. Apparently it sets all files to be owned by games.games . And only "games" user can write to some files. So when i tried to run the game as some other username it couldn't write to some files. So i chowned everything there to myusername.mygroup and it worked. Graphics is also bad - on big resolutions i needed lens to see what's going on there... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Can't wait for a debian package to come along ;~)
I especially like the equipment view and the integration of the qt-nethack graphics. This looks like what gnome users have needed for years. |
