Openglad Screenshot Linux port of the old (and recently open sourced) DOS Gauntlet-style RPG, Gladia

Openglad is an SDL port of an old DOS game called Gladiator, which was developed by FSGames in the mid 90's. FSGames donated the original source (made for DOS, of course) under the GPL when one of them found our earlier project (now abandoned in favor of this one) to make a full Gladiator clone.

Gladiator is a top-down gauntlet-style RPG. In it, you hire team mates, go on missions, and improve your team with the spoils you reap. It can be played by up to 4 players (using split-screen), and includes many distinct classes and a scenario editor.

Yeah, I think that gauntlet is what inspired FSGames to make Gladiator.

As for internet play, we are looking at that for Openglad Enhanced. Stay tuned for more :-)

To make it fullscreen, you can either run it as "openglad -f" on the command line or you can edit its config file (global one is in $prefix/share/games/openglad) and set the fullscreen option to yes.

Keybindings, arrgh! posted by Anonymous @ 24.74.138.58 on Sep 24 2002 4:12 PM
Is there any way to change the key bindings in this game? I don't have a numeric keypad on my laptop and it's basically unplayable.

Yup. Go to the options menu (* on the keypad, 2, 4, and 8 for players 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively) and hit "K" to change your keyprefs.

That's assuming you can get to a * somewhere on your keyboard. If not, then you'll have to edit the source :-(

I still remember playing this with a couple of friends. This has the same kind of multiplayer value as the best console games.

Nice to hear you like the game :-) If you beat the campaign and still want more, there are user-created campaigns on the Gladiator Yahoo Group (there's a link to it from http://snowstorm.sourceforge.net), but you need to sign up to the group to get to the files. I'd mirror them on Snowstorm's site, but they aren't Snowstorm's so Yahoo Groups will have to do.
