QJoyPad is a Linux/QT program that converts joystick or gamepad input into keypresses or mouse actions for XWindows. This lets you play any XWindows game with your gaming device. Use your game controller in a game that doesn't have joystick support, choose your own custom layouts to play your games how you want, and get rid of extra gamepad plugins for your emulators with QJoyPad.

Indespensible. An awesome tool for any Linux gamer. This utility is the only reason I have QT installed.

I think this is a brilliant utility and well worth 5 stars.

I use it with xmame as I can't get xmame to recognise my USB MS SideWinder Game Pad Pro on /dev/js0! and I've had enough of trying. Anyway I can assign anything I like to my 9 buttons such as Insert Coin, 1 Player Start, ESC and p[ause] :D

Games though really are just one use for this software, as I have a computer a metre from my bed I can use the joypad to read PDF books etc. whilst in bed :p Much comfier than sitting in a chair getting backache.

You can alienize the rom to install it in Debian. I had done it and QjoyPad work flawlessly with my Saitek P880. Good work.

  Not a game, but a gaming utility! posted by SAM_site @ 81.131.155.158 on Jun 23 2004 11:13 AM 4444
One day you shall support the TKL library. And when you do I'll be waiting with a fifth star ready to award it to this Qjoypad project of yours. But HappyPenguin does not allow one to retune one's rating and thus - you shall regret not supporting a GUI toolkit other than QT from the start! Just you wait and see...

  Looks good to me posted by Dou9st3r @ 68.112.96.25 on Jun 2 2004 8:43 PM 55555

I just painlessly compiled and installed this and it appears to work flawlessly. All I had to do was reset the ownership of /dev/input/js* to root.games which I should have done anyways.

It works with my Belkin Nostromo N45 Dual Analog 6-axis 13-button USB joystick From what I can tell its detecting all axes and buttons. It works, simple clean interface, nuff said.

As the author of Joy2key... posted by Anonymous @ 65.96.249.49 on Jan 21 2004 10:36 PM

It warms my heart that my little program is popular enough to be flamed anonymously :-) I wish the author of QJoypad good fortune with his utility.

(As for the reason joy2key kind of sucks, I haven't personally used the program in several years, and no one has volunteered to take up maintainance. If a newer, better program takes it's place, that's fine by me, that's less support email I have to deal with :-)

I appreciate your well-wishings and I want to remind you that you did all of this first ;) joy2key has been a popular and powerful program for quite a while and without it there probably wouldn't be a qjoypad. The basic idea wasn't mine, and I'm the first to admit that. Thank you for your inspiriation, you have my deepest respect. -- QJoyPad author, Nathan Gaylinn

Thrustmaster has a similar program for that other os. The developer should check it out for some ideas. Spesificaly mapping the joystic to mouse axies.
This would enable me to do basic things in xwindows, like starting programs with my wireles joypad.
I allready use the builtin joystick support in xmms and mplayer.

Thanks for the advice! If you'll read the news for January 20th on the QJoyPad website, you'll see where I stand on the whole mouse issue. That's something I'd really like to impliment! Only problem is getting the controller to do testing with. --Nate.
